“Give them an hour; they’ll remake your vision of the American dance landscape.”
– Elizabeth Zimmer, The Village Voice
Our Little Sunbeam is a dance theater collision
between Anton Chekhov and the U.S. space program. With original rap and pop music and a wildly varied dance vocabulary, the company draws parallels between the plight of Chekhov’s Ivanov and an astronaut’s orbits around the earth. 33 Fainting
Spells co-founders Dayna Hanson and Gaelen
Hanson are joined by guest collaborator, NY-based
experimental theatre artist Linas Phillips.
Based in Seattle, 33 Fainting Spells was founded in
1994, and has been commissioned and presented
nationally and internationally by venues such as
Dance Theatre Workshop (NY), The Wexner Center
for the Arts (OH), Künstlerhaus Mousonturm
(Frankfurt), and Jacob’s Pillow (MA).
Dayna Hanson studied literature, translation and
fiction writing at the University of Washington and
was a founding member of the performance group
Run/Remain. Gaelen Hanson majored in Dance and
Theatre at Oberlin College, and completed her
Advanced Diploma in Dance/Performance at the
European Dance Development Center in the
Netherlands. A graduate of New York University’s
Experimental Theater Wing, Linas Phillips has
performed his work at LaMama, Dance Theater
Workshop, P.S. 122 and other New York venues.
