Here comes Company, in comes Company, lots of Company! “Company” follows the odyssey of Bobby, a turning-35-year-old bachelor who has been unable – or more to the point, unwilling - to walk down the aisle…until now. A series of random vignettes follow the five of Bobby’s best couple friends and his relationship with his three current squeezes. Each, in its quirky and hilarious fashion, increasingly inspires Bobby to tie the knot before it’s too late.
The show is at once quintessential Broadway (winning 7 Tony Awards over its three Broadway runs) and an homage to dating and marriage in New York City. A Broadway-sized orchestra helps bring an even truer NYC theater experience to this Portland-based performance, which is produced by local companies BrunDog Productions in association with JANE, a theater company.
The current production follows a short spring run by BrunDog/JANE (with the same cast and crew) at the Scottish Rite Temple in Portland. The original production was honored in the 2009 Portland Area Musical Theater Awards (PAMTAS) for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor (Andrew W. Foster), Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble, Outstanding Achievement by a Musical Director (Alan D. Lytle) and Outstanding Achievement by a Lighting Designer (Micheal Mazzola). Now, it is back by popular demand - and bigger and better than ever - at the beautiful Winningstad Theater.
As one of musical theater’s most noted composers/lyricists, Sondheim’s work is featured in shows including Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Sunday in the Park with George and A Little Night Music. “Company” includes some of Sondheim’s most recognizable compositions, including "Getting Married Today," "The Ladies Who Lunch," and "Being Alive."
