ADA Accessibility

PCPA provides the following services in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Assistive listening devices: Individual headsets or neck loops with a receiver are available, and may be checked out free-of-charge with ID at the coat checkroom for the performance.
  • Wheelchair accessible seating: PCPA reserves accessible seating for patrons using wheelchairs and their companion(s).
  • Ample seating: PCPA provides ample chairs for patrons requesting such.
  • PCPA reserves seating for patrons with interpretive signer requests. Requests from patrons are forwarded to the presenter for ADA compliance.
  • Open captioned performances are available for the U.S. Bank Broadway Across America Portland performances on select Sunday evenings. Partial support for open captioning provided by Theatre Development Fund.
  • ADA restrooms are available at all PCPA facilities.

PCPA is participating in the National Open Captioning Initiative. Partial support for open captioning is provided by Theatre Development Fund.

Open captioning is a service for people with hearing loss that uses a text display to provide a simultaneous translation of dialogue and lyrics during a live performance, as well as a description of any sound effects on stage.

The service will be available for anyone sitting in a designated area that allows clear view of captioning. No special equipment is needed by the audience. Because of this, open captioning is considered passive assistance and is part of the Universal Design concept, which means that it can be used by all people, regardless of age and ability. Along with open captioning, PCPA will continue to offer signed services on Thursdays of its Broadway engagements. Please call, or email, the PCPA Box Office at 503.248.4335 to confirm.
