Become an Ambassador for Portland as a Volunteer

Volunteers are an integral part of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA). Each year over 700 volunteers provide valuable services for visitors to Portland and to these facilities; as gift shop and information aides, tour guides, ushers and greeters, and office assistants. Volunteers are needed for day, evening, and weekend positions and are asked to work two shifts per month. Volunteers receive thorough training for their jobs. This is followed by on-going educational, social, and recognition activities.

    Volunteer Benefits include:
  • Monthly Newsletter
  • Gift Shop Discount
  • Recognition Night
  • Update Meetings
  • Training and Special Events
  • Community Pride
Volunteer Opportunities

GIFT SHOP
The gift shop is an important outlet for promoting the PCPA. In addition to selling merchandise, gift shop volunteers provide information to visitors about current and upcoming events, tours, the theatres themselves, where to shop and eat, and answers to a variety of other questions.

TOUR GUIDES
Providing tours is an important public relations tool for the PCPA. Long time residents, as well as out-of-town visitors, enjoy seeing the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall; the Newmark and Winningstad Theatres; and learning about the history, art, architecture, and interesting trivia of the theatres.

PCPA open tours are held every Wednesday and Saturday. Special pre-arranged tours, for 3rd graders through adults may be scheduled on other days. Each tour lasts approximately one hour.

USHER/GREETER
Volunteer ushers help reduce labor costs to the Newmark and Winningstad Theatre tenants by providing volunteer usher services. Volunteer greeters help enhance our customer service to the patrons at the Keller Auditorium and the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

Ushers who work in both the Winningstad and Newmark theatres, perform many functions including ticket taking, handing out programs, showing patrons to their seats, and seating "latecomers". They are often able to see performances at which they work.

Greeters (experienced PCPA ushers) have the opportunity to work performances in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and the Keller Auditorium. Greeters hand out programs, answer directional questions and generally assist in providing an enjoyable experience for patrons.

OFFICE ASSISTANT
Office Assistants provide back up reception for the PCPA receptionist during breaks and at lunch. In addition, they provide clerical support for PCPA staff. Duties vary daily and give each volunteer an inside look at the PCPA operations.

Office Assistant positions are available weekdays. Volunteers are asked to work one 4-hour shift every two weeks.
